In spite of the advancements in the field of eye care, pediatric eye care in India still remains a challenging field because it requires special skills to perform surgeries on a child. In India 1 out of every 1000 children is blind.
This is indeed troublesome, considering that a visually impaired child means a greater number of years without proper vision and subsequently a reduced number of opportunities in life. All this can be prevented if proper eye care is provided on time, but it is often neglected because of lack of understanding, poverty or ignorance.

To fight these challenges we have introduced ‘Adopt a child program’,through which we provide eye care to less fortunate children with the help of donations. We have multiple options under this initiative where the
donors can sponsor an eye examination, a surgery or low vision aids for children.

‘Fight Diabetic Vision’ is an initiative by REH with an objective to fight vision loss among diabetic patients by the means of early detection. Currently, 4 crore Indians are estimated to be suffering from diabetes. By 2025, this number will rise to 7 crore approximately. This is a serious issue because with the growing incidence of diabetes the risk of vision loss also increases as these patients are more susceptible to disorders like diabetic retinopathy, cataract and glaucoma.

Through this drive, we aim to detect diabetic retinopathy in its early stage by educating / screening as many people including patients having diabetes irrespective of age, people having diabetes in the family (diabetes being a hereditary disease) or organizing screening camps for diabetic patients. The best way to fight against diabetic retinopathy is early detection and quick action.

By 2020 India will become 2nd largest Glaucoma populated country in the world. Also, Glaucoma is the 3rd leading cause of blindness in India. 12 million people aged 40 years and older are affected accounting for 12.8% of the country’s blindness. Population based studies reports a prevalence between 2 to 13% of the population in India might suffer from Glaucoma.

Glaucoma can affect any age group, including newborns, infants, children and elderly. But it presents no symptoms and is therefore known as ‘The Silent Thief of Vision’. The only way to detect glaucoma is through an eye examination by an ophthalmologist.

Through this drive, we plan to conduct checkup camps for corporates and students to diagnose and treat glaucoma before it steals their vision.
