As we all know Diwali is a festival of fireworks. Along with the kids adults also like to enjoy fireworks during these days. However bright fireworks, especially zooming rockets may prove to be a hazardous if handle in wrong way. That can cause eye injury also. Adults often gives fireworks to children in their absence and that leads to major incidents. This year most of the people are not in favour of fireworks due to COVID19 situation. But still if you are willing to celebrate Diwali with fireworks than needs to take care of few things. Let\u2019s talk about it.<\/p>\n

Most common injury during this time is eye injury. In fact, the eyes are the second most common affected area after hands and fingers. It can range from mild to severe like eye irritation to corneal and retinal complications, which leads to partial or complete blindness. Apart from this the constant smoke cause irritability and make eyes watery.<\/p>\n

People wearing contact lenses should be cautious \u2014 they may cause irritation to the eyes, especially if exposed to direct heat for a long time. The damage of the eye by a cracker depends on the velocity of the cracker or the intensity with which it hits the eye, chemical reaction in the eye and thermal burns.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

  • Don\u2019t rub your eyes or scratch your eyes.<\/li>\n
  • Wash your eyes and face properly.<\/li>\n
  • In case of any irritation or foreign body in the eye, hold the eyelids open and
    flush the eyes continuously with water.<\/li>\n
  • If a particle is large or stuck in the eye, do not attempt to remove it and
    immediately contact us at #REH.<\/li>\n
  • Keep eyes closed and go to the eye doctor<\/li>\n
  • If there is any chemical that has entered the eyes, immediately irrigate the
    eyes and under the eyelids, with water, for 30 minutes. Seek an eye doctor
    immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    Above we talked about what to do if injury happens. But as\nwe all know prevention is better than cure. So let\u2019s explore\nfew precautions also:<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    • Always burst crackers in an open space. Wear goggles, and afterwards,
      wash hands with clean water.<\/li>\n
    • Supervise kids when they play with crackers. Never take any injury lightly;
      visit a doctor and take professional help.<\/li>\n
    • Keep a bucket of water and sand readily available for accidental fire.<\/li>\n
    • Store fireworks in a closed box in a safe place, away from the reach of children.<\/li>\n
    • Keep fireworks away from the face, hair and clothing.<\/li>\n
    • Do not wear synthetic clothing while bursting crackers.<\/li>\n
    • Maintain a distance of an arm\u2019s length while lighting firecrackers, and at least five metres while watching.<\/li>\n
    • Remove your contact lenses before going out to burst fire crackers. Use a spare glass instead, which can protect your eyes in a better way.<\/li>\n
    • Defuse used fireworks properly by soaking them in a bucket of water before disposal.<\/li>\n
    • Always wear good slippers which will protect from accidental stamping of burnt crackers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n
